After you request a memberpage/bandpage you will be given a password for an FTP cliet.
If you are a forum member you can use your "normal" password but you will have to tell it to me so that I can set
you up which means your password for the forum would no longer be "secret", so you may
want to just pick a new one for FTP purposes.
There are numerous means of which to do FTP
with IE you need a third party, with Mozilla there are add ons which can do it. For the
purposes of this tutorial Im going to assume you need a third party. Again, there are
numerous FTP "clients" you can download for free online, FileZilla, Core, Cute, etc.(just
enter "FTP Client" into your favorite search engine). You
can of course pick your favorite, but I find FileZilla the easiest, and that's the one
I'll be describing here.
Once you've downloaded the FTP client you may have to set it up
so that it know's which site you want to transfer stuff to, which in this case is hereticmetal.com.
Then (again assuming you're using FileZilla, your setup may differ) on the upper left hand
side of the screen it asks for "host" in this box you will enter, hereticmetal.com. Then
just to the right of that it asks for "username" in this box you MUST enter "yourusername@hereticmetal.com"
(JUST entering your username NOT followed by @hereticmetal.com will get you nowhere, TRUST ME!).
Then to the right of that it will ask you your password. Click enter and it should pull up
your folder on HM. (note there is another box that asks for "Port", just leave that blank).
So now down below on your left you should have a list of files on your PC and on your right
you folder within HM to transfer them to. Follow your directions from your FTP client,
but on FileZilla, its all drag and drop.
If you've successfully logged in it should have downloaded a copy
of the "tutorials_skins" folder, drag that file to the left side onto your PC.
At this point you can close the FTP client for awhile.
Go to "My Computer" and open the "tutorials_skins" folder. In it you will find the "how to" file, this file,
and then your choice of our premade skins and templates. Take a look at all the skins, find one you're happy with. Now with your selection still on the screen, right click and select "VIEW SOURCE" that will bring up the HTML for that skin
in Notepad. You can now minimize that for the moment.(*Note; you do not HAVE to use one of our skins, if you have one already that you are happy
with, or know how to create one on your own, feel free to do so. Creativity is not something we want to hinder!)
Now take a look at the templates, and decide which is right for you. Make the changes in the highlighted areas, then as the directions say on the skin, copy and paste your modified template into the skin you have selected that is now in Notepad.
Now in Notepad, click "File", "Save as" and title it as "main.html" that way your URL will look like
www.hereticmetal.com/memberpages/yourname/main.html It will also be easier to title offshoots of that page if you keep the main page titled "main".
You've successfully created your page! Now to put it on HM, re-open your FTP client, find your saved page on your PC's side, drag it over to the HM folder and that's it. Your page is now on HM!
